The Syracuse Vocal Ensemble is the only non-school-based ensemble performing vocal jazz in the Central New York area. Directed by Jeff Welcher, one of our four main productions has been a vocal jazz concert since 2016. Our repertoire has included jazz standards as well as newer pieces for this medium. Influenced by groups like The Manhattan Transfer, The Real Group, Singers Unlimited and The New York Voices, as well as Pentatonix, Deke Sharon and Jacob Collier, our repertoire includes works from contemporary choral composers and arrangers who bring complex harmonies and rhythms to chamber choir-sized ensembles. SVE Vocal Jazz programs look to bridge the gap between traditional chamber choral literature and works influenced by Jazz, one of the few original American art forms.
