Join us for special performance in celebration the 75th anniversary of the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music, featuring Mozart’s Vesperæ solennes de confessore as well as music for chamber orchestra by C.P.E. Bach and Felix Mendellsohn, at the newly renovated Grant Middle School auditorium.
Why do people gather? They gather for weddings, funerals, coronations, birthdays, protest and for singing! This concert will present music written specifically for these events, including one of Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata, among others.

Tickets: $15 per adult, Children 18 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Cash and Venmo accepted.

Featured composers are René Clausen, Eric Whitacre and a commissioned work by Megan Hook. The texts will be read by actors Susan and Michael Barbour prior to each piece. Come revisit favorites from your childhood and share these great texts with your families.

The Syracuse Vocal Ensemble will present “Maintaining Our Standards - An Evening of Vocal Jazz” under the direction of Jeff Welcher on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 7:30 PM at Park Central Presbyterian Church, 504 East Fayette Street, Syracuse, New York 13202. The concert will highlight both contemporary and classic vocal jazz pieces from Charlie Parker, George and Ira Gershwin, and The New York Voices as well as many other composers and arrangers. The concert will also feature local musicians Tom Brigandi and Mike Cirmo. Tickets - $10 each and available at the door (Under 18 - Free) cash/check/Venmo/Paypal only.

The Saturday night performance of An American Tapestry will be followed by SVE’s 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration in the community room at Park Central.
2023 Auditions will be held on August 23rd starting at 6:30pm. Audition preparations include a vocal solo with sheet music, though you may also be asked to sing a few range-determining exercises, as well as a sight-reading exercise. The Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, directed by Julie Pretzat, will present “Shakespeare and Love,” a concert of choral music setting the texts of William Shakespeare on Saturday, March 26 at 3:00 pm at May Memorial Unitarian Society, 3800 E Genesee Street, Syracuse NY. Interspersed with the music selections will be dramatic readings of scenes and sonnets by “The Bard” presented by actors Mark Cole and Robin Curtis.
Mark Cole, Professor Emeritus of Theatre at SUNY Oswego, has numerous acting credits, including the Fool in King Lear (Syracuse Shakespeare Festival), Andrew Borden in Lizzie Borden Took an Axe (Covey Theatre Company), and roles in the films Impossible Choice (Media Artists) and Viking Funeral (Jetpacks Go!).
A SUNY Oswego Theater alumna and professional actress for over twenty years, Robin Curtis’ career spanned film (Star Trek III and IV), television (MacGyver, Murder. She Wrote, Night Court), commercial campaigns (American Express, International Coffees), and playing all the great wenches of musical theater. She serves on the Syracuse Stage board, the CNY Arts Council, and attends the Friends of the Central Library Author Series.
The composers setting texts from many of Shakespeare’s well-known plays and sonnets include Robert Johnson of the 16th Century through Ralph Vaughan Williams and William Mathias to contemporary composers Matthew Harris and Nancy Wertsch. Glen Kime will serve as the piano accompanist for the concert.
Tickets are $10 for adults, free for students and children, and available at the door. Cash or checks are preferred.
Please be aware that current protocols at the concert venue require masks for singers and the audience.
